Operation "Tone Up" Week Six

Well, I only managed to do Basic Workout Plus two times this week. I was feeling a bit under the weather for several days and just didn’t do it, although I did manage to do Primary Back Stretch (which you can read more about in my first update) at least once a day.

Here’s how the week went:
  • Sunday: Day of rest!
  • Monday: Primary Back Stretch before bed
  • Tuesday: Basic Workout Plus
  • Wednesday: Primary Back Stretch
  • Thursday: Primary Back Stretch
  • Friday: Primary Back Stretch
  • Saturday: Basic Workout Plus

Results:

I was pleasantly surprised to find my measurements are down another inch this week, for a total of 10 inches (not including the first week, when I hadn’t measured yet).

I really wasn’t expecting to see any change with the week I had. It was bound to happen that I’d have an “off” week…I’m just glad I managed to get it in at least twice! Hopefully next week I’ll be back up to speed and get my usual three, plus hopefully some rebounding in!

I’ll check in again next Saturday!

Operation "Tone Up" Week Five: A Tough Week

No, I haven’t forgotten my weekly update! I decided it would be better to post on Saturday, which will allow for anything I get in on Friday evening or Saturday to be included.
All of the kids’ fall activities started up this week and I had a harder time fitting the workout in than I have before. It didn’t help that my husband’s car also broke down, which wouldn’t be such a big deal if he didn’t work forty minutes away! Still, I did manage to do Basic Workout Plus three times and Primary Back Stretch, which you can read more about in my first update, several times.
Here’s how the week went:
Results:

My measurements are down another 1.5 inches this week, for a total of 9 inches (not including the first week, when I hadn’t measured yet).

I’ll admit that my form was probably a bit sloppier than usual this week because I was more pressed for time and I was just plain tired. I even skipped Hoe-Downs on Thursday because I felt so tired…even though they most likely would’ve helped with that!

Hoe-Downs are the very last exercise in the workout. They last just three minutes but can reportedly drop your blood sugar 62-85 points in that time! I’ve never tested mine, but I know several people who have and have had dramatic results. They help improve coordination, balance hormone levels (PMS or menopause anyone?), and boy do they get your heart pumping!

My top priority for getting back into this routine was not necessarily to lose a bunch of inches (although I was hoping to lose a few in a few key areas!) but to strengthen my weak core muscles and eliminate my back and neck pain and discomfort. I’m definitely feeling results in that area! My “problem spots” still act up, though much less frequently, and everything goes back into place much easier…usually all I need to do is a quick Primary Back Stretch and I fell much better. I’m not quite ready to totally give up my chiropractor, but I’m certainly not feeling the need to visit him quite as often! Mornings waking up with a tired, sore back and neck are virtually gone. To me, these results are the main benefit (although I’m pleased with the inch loss also!)

I keep forgetting to try to get some rebounding in!  I need to do that.

I’ll check in again next Saturday!

Operation "Tone Up" Week Four: A Short Week

I apologize for being belated with my fourth update on my T-Tapp exercise routine. As I explained in another post, my week took an unexpected turn when we learned that my grandpa had passed away. We wound up being out of town all of Friday and Saturday and this is the first chance I’ve had to update. I did manage to do Basic Workout Plus two times during the week and Primary Back Stretch, which you can read more about in my first update, several times.
Here’s how the week went:
  • Monday: Basic Workout Plus
  • Tuesday: Primary Back Stretch afternoon and bedtime
  • Wednesday: Primary Back Stretch afternoon and bedtime
  • Thursday: Basic Workout Plus and an additional Primary Back Stretch at bedtime
  • Friday: out of town
Results:

My posture continues to feel and look better to me and anytime my back and/or neck are bothering me, a Primary Back Stretch helps a great deal!

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my measurements show that I’m down another 2.75 inches over last week, even though I only got the workout in twice, for a total inch loss of 7.5 inches in three weeks. And remember, I didn’t measure when I started so I don’t know what my inch loss was for that first week.

I think I continued to lose inches despite working out less this week because my spine is strengthening and now that I’m back into the routine I’m much more conscious of my posture and body mechanics, meaning I’m pulling everything in and helping strengthen it even more just as I go about my daily routine.

Considering that my week was derailed a bit, I’m pleased with my results!
Looking forward to another week!

Operation "Tone Up" Week Three: More Progress!

It’s time for my third check-in with my new T-Tapp exercise routine. I was able to do Basic Workout Plus three times during the week. One evening I did Primary Back Stretch, which you can read more about in my first update, before bed even though I didn’t get the workout in. I’d like to get the workout in one more time this weekend, but my Saturday and Sunday are super full this week so we’ll see.
Here’s how the week went:
Results:

My back and neck have bothered me a little bit more this week than they did last week, but overall they still feel much better than they had been. I’m beginning to notice the difference in my posture and my waist has changed visibly.

My measurements show that I’m down another 2.75 inches over last week, for a total inch loss of 4.75 inches in two weeks. And remember, I didn’t measure when I started so I don’t know what my inch loss was for that first week.

Not bad!!
Looking forward to another week!

Operation "Tone Up" Week Two: Progress!

It’s time for my second check-in with my new T-Tapp exercise routine. Despite a hectic week, I managed to get my workouts in and plan to get one more in tomorrow, for a total of four times doing Basic Workout Plus for the week.

Here’s how the week went:

Results:

My back and neck continue to feel so much better with doing the workout several times a week. The difference is remarkable. The simple, fifteen minute long Basic Workout Plus leaves me feeling even better than I do after seeing my chiropractor…without having to leave the house or spend any money! I’ve also noticed that my tailbone, which has been sore off and on since my youngest was born nearly seventeen months ago, hasn’t bothered me at all in the last two weeks.

Tonight especially, I’m amazed. My oldest son had a karate belt test this evening. This means we get to sit on the floor at his karate school for an hour and a half to two hours to watch. I usually spend the entire time shifting and trying to find a position that doesn’t kill my back. This evening I didn’t have that problem at all. My back felt fine the entire time and I didn’t have to keep changing positions. Now that we’re home it doesn’t feel the least bit sore or tired. This benefit alone makes keeping up with the routine worthwhile to me. I consider T-Tapp’s emphasis on body mechanics and proper structural alignment just as important as the fat burning and inch loss!

Speaking of inch loss, I’m down two inches from last Friday’s measurements…not bad!

We’ll see what the coming week brings!

Operation "Tone Up" Week One: So Far So Good!

As I explained earlier this week, I’m trying to get back into a regular exercise routine. Since T-Tapp has been successful for me in the past, my plan is to do the fifteen minute Basic Workout Plus (BWO+) at least three times a week, then check in here each Friday so YOU can hold me accountable!

So, here’s how my first week went:

  • Monday: Successfully got the BWO+ in!
  • Tuesday: BWO+ again
  • Wednesday: Went swimming with friends and didn’t get it in, but did do a quick Primary Back Stretch right before bed (see below for more on the PBS)
  • Thursday: BWO+
  • Friday: Hubby’s day off and just didn’t get it in….did do Primary Back Stretch again
No rebounding this week.
I plan to try to do BWO+ one more time this weekend, probably on Saturday.
Results so far:

There is definitely a noticeable difference already in my back and neck. In the last few months, my neck in particular has given me trouble (weird, since in the past my lower back has been my trouble area). It gets very misaligned and makes awful crunching sounds when I turn my head. I’m sure it’s from laying awkwardly to nurse the baby during the night. My chiropractor can fix it up wonderfully, but it gets out of whack again after a few days. Well, it’s been several weeks since I’ve been to see my chiro and my neck was pretty crunchy! After my first day of BWO+, no more crunchiness! My neck feels great!
I feel like my posture has already improved also.
I didn’t do my measurements early enough in the week to compare this week, so we’ll see what happens there next week. I did look back at my results when I first started this routine back in 2007 and I lost a total of more than 10 inches in the first five weeks. Remember, these results are from someone who started out underweight but just wanted to tone. I’ve talked with others who needed to lose weight who had MUCH more dramatic results!
I mentioned doing a Primary Back Stretch (PBS) on days I didn’t get to the do full routine. The PBS is the first exercise in the routine. Here’s a little bit of what Teresa Tapp (the creator of T-Tapp) says about it:

“In addition to contributing to increased endurance and faster fat burning, Primary Back Stretch also offers a multitude of healthy benefits, such as better circulation with warmer hands and feet, better lymphatic function with less swelling or edema, improved mental clarity with fewer headaches, and improved energy for those with autoimmune disorders.”

An impressive list, and I can testify that my back feels great after doing it! I’ve often used it as a quick before-bed or whenever-my-back-is-bothering-me-stretch over the last several years, even when I haven’t been consistently doing the entire routine.
I also enjoyed skimming back through Teresa Tapp’s book this week. I prefer following the routine on the DVDs, even though it’s included in the book (along with the longer Total Workout, which is 45 minutes long), but I really like the information in the book that tells exactly what each exercise does and which muscles it affects.
Once I get an exercise routine established, I’d like to try to add the Total Workout or Step Away the Inches in once a week also.
So there’s my week one update!  This was a super busy, hectic week and still I didn’t really have a problem fitting it in. Next week should be a “normal” week so it should be even easier.
Watch for my weekly updates every Friday.
