In Our Classroom: Junior High Edition (November 2014)

In Our Classroom Junior High 2014

This month’s update is going to be another run of the mill one.

Everything is chugging along as planned for Kyle. During the busy weeks leading up to the Nutcracker performance, we stick to a  pretty bare bones academic schedule. There’s just too much else going on to add anything else without everyone getting stressed and overloaded. That’s one of the beauties of homeschooling! We’re not slaves to our schedule, and we have the flexibility to adjust for these busy times!

That said, here’s what he’s been working on these last several weeks:

We’re heading into probably the busiest six weeks of our school year.

Nutcracker rehearsals are going full force, and between them, her academic work, and her other activities, Kaitlyn is staying super busy! Her schoolwork has been pretty routine. I’m not adding in any special projects or bells and whistles until we get through next month’s performance.

I know this update is a couple of days late, but better late than never!

It’s been a busy week of Nutcracker photos, emergency vet trips, and more. Just like his sister, Kendall, Kade has had a month of minimal seatwork, with lots of time enjoying the milder weather, practicing his karate, and attending fun events like the symphony’s Spooktacular show.

This month’s update is short and sweet!

It’s been a light month academically for my younger two, Kendall (3rd grade) and Kade (kindergarten). We took a week off at the beginning of the month to concentrate on some decluttering and organizing around the house, and another week off while Grandma stayed with the kids while we left town for a few days! In between, we’ve been enjoying the fall weather and keeping up with the basics of reading, writing, and math. In the next week, we’ll get back to the regular routine again with a full schedule of subjects.

I’m afraid this is going to be an unexciting update.

Schoolwork and all Kyle’s extracurriculars are going as planned. I do have one exciting development to tell you about later in the post, but for the most part, things have been business as usual. His outside activities have stepped up quite a bit this year, and it’s proving to be an excellent opportunity for him to learn time management skills!

It’s two months in, and we’re settling into a routine.

Well, except that we chucked the routine this week. I didn’t schedule anything new, and let the older kids have a “catch up” week to tie up loose ends and get a little ahead of schedule, while the little ones basically got a week off. Kaitlyn missed about a day and a half last week with preparation for her ballet company’s fall performance, so this gave her a chance to finish a few assignments and take a breather. I’ve focused on some cleaning and decluttering projects, and the lighter school schedule has allowed the kids to help me out with those too.
